The solar plant on our store roof reaches 1.2 MW
The installed capacity of the solar panels on our roof has reached 1.2 MW. Around 40 per cent of our store’s annual electricity now comes from the sun.

Istanbul, press release — GÜL GROSS MARKET has completed the second phase of the solar panels on its store and car park roofs. The plant’s installed capacity has reached 1.2 MW.
Our solar roof in numbers
- 2,700 solar panels
- Around 1.6 million kWh of electricity a year
- 40 per cent of the store’s annual electricity needs
- Around 820 tonnes of carbon emissions avoided each year
The biggest consumer: refrigeration
In a gross market, chillers and the cold store use most of the electricity. Midday, when the sun is strongest, is also when cooling demand peaks, so almost all the electricity generated is used in the store straight away.
Next steps
We plan to convert all our chillers to models with doors and to increase the charging points in our car park to 24. We pass the savings on our electricity bill on to shelf prices through our Fixed Price Shelf programme.
